There’s a reason that famous line was uttered by Marcia’s tv sister, Jan Brady. Marcia was kind of fabulous in her own wholesome 60s SoCal way. Sure you could have a beer, or even swill champagne all night. But when it comes to New Year’s Eve, wouldn’t it be that much more fun to mix up a few drinks from the days when cocktail, not keg, parties were the way to socialize?

Just add some air kisses and start calling everyone “dahhhhling!”, and trust us, you’ve got yourself one memorable night ahead.

Get the Look: Sharon Tate

Though 60s actress Sharon Tate’s life ended with an unspeakably heinous tragedy, we’d like to take a few moments right now to remember her as the beauty she was.

Her signature look was breathy and blonde, sex appeal that came from her pouty innoncence. The slightly teased hair, done up eyes and baby-pink lips looks just as great in 2013 as it did in 1963. How to get the look? Here’s our quick-and-sure-fire way to go about it.

1. Arm yourself with liquid liner, and draw a nice fat line on the upper lip in a slight cat’s eye shape.

2. Layer on a sparkly black or charcoal eye shadow over the liner, up to the crease of the eye, and blend upwards. Apply a little to the lower lid, from the corners in, and smudge with a q-tip. (We love NARS Night Series eyeshadow in Night Breed.)

3. Brush a light, illuminating shadow or highlighter on the inside corners of the eyes, and over the brow bone.

4. Add a few false lashes, or apply a few coats of lengthening and volumizing mascara from the roots to the tips.

5. Finish off the whole look with a pale, shimmery lip gloss. A classic nude-y pink like NARS Orgasm is a no-fail choice.

6. Add a sparkly dress and your best pout, and off into the night (or day, for you adventurous glamour-pusses) you go!

Sure, a movie about two (really) good looking people overcoming class barriers in the name of their love is always going to be a good story. But what’s kept Love Story a perennial favorite may not just be a super-dramantic plot line, its probably also the clothes. Scene after scene of New England cold-weather collegiate hallmarks, like wool kilts, camel coats, and furry hats, these tried and true pieces can certainly withstand another year of replay, just like the movie.

NIFTY PURSUITS: A VINTAGE HOLIDAY COOKIE RECIPE

There’s nothing like a time-honored recipe for the holidays, and we found this charming vintage recipe (from a now defunct-baking supply company) for Christmas cookies while researching a recent theme sale.

Using good old American ingredients like shortening and food coloring, these little tree-shaped morsels will fill your kitchen with the warm scent of baking, and maybe even bring back fond memories of those days when Santa was for real.

CHRISTMAS TREE COOKIES

Time: 10-12 Minutes

Ingredients:

1 cup shortening

3/4 cup sugar

1 egg

1 tsp almond extract

2 1/4 sifted all purpose flour

1/4 tsp baking powder

Green food coloring

1.Pre-heat oven to 375F

2. Cream shortening and sugar well.

3. Sift dry ingredients together, and gradually blend in dry ingredients with shortening and sugar mixture. Add in a few drops of green food coloring.

4. Roll out dough to 1/8 inch, and cut out with a Christmas Tree shaped cookie cutter, and decorate with candies if desired.

5. Place cookies on ungreased cookie sheet, and bake until for approx 10 minutes.

6. Cool for 15 minutes.
